Some Baltimore in Ohio

FullSizeRender.jpg

While hiking yesterday we ran across several Baltimore Orioles. This one was just chilling where I was able to capture this photo. Most of the spots where I saw them made it really difficult to capture a photo.

I actually was able to hear them before I saw any of them. They have a distinct call. I am not saying I can recognized it quickly, but I knew it was not a bird I have seen recently. Once I saw him in my lens,I got kind of excited. I love the colors of the brid. They are such a beautiful creature.

There She Is!

This is a female Red-winged Blackbird. They do not look anything like the male. I have been trying to photograph one for weeks, but no luck until today. They are often polygamous in the mating life, and migrate.

Gold in Those Trees

FullSizeRender.jpg

This is an American Goldfinch. The first I have photographed this spring. This made me so happy. There was three or four of them.

Last week, while we were hiking at Grand Lake Saint Marys, we saw a bird that looked like a finch, but it could have been a warbler. I missed the shot. This one was too busy munching down to pay much attention to us.

Postcard Cardinal

We have seen, and photographed, a large number of cardinals this week. Most of them have been males. This one was willing to wait for me to capture this photo. Such a beautiful bird.

A Flicker

Shortly after we captured the photos I posted yesterday, we ran across two Northern Flickers. They were almost as active as those woodpeckers we saw just up stream from this spot. I love the colors. The sky was so blue on Monday.
