Hold Still, Please

The weather this past weekend was great. It did rain Sunday evening, but we were able to get out and take a walk at Stillwater Prairie Reserve before the rain started to fall.

I saw this White-breasted Nuthatch combing the tree for a snack. It’s hard to capture this guy because he would not stop long enough for a photo. I did manage this shot. Nature is amazing.

Top of the Day, and the Tree

FullSizeRender.jpg

Teresa and I took a hike yesterday and ended up stopping several places. I took the photo above at Ft Blankenship Riverside Sanctuary. This was a difficult photo. I had to do a lot of work to manually focus due to the tree limbs that were in the way. You can’t even see them in the image. I was very pleased with the photo.

We created this video of our hike. Enjoy:

Presistent Woodpecker

FullSizeRender.jpg

This Red-bellied Woodpecker was making a lot of noise, but he was sure hard to locate. Between his call and the pounding we knew he was there. We looked for a good ten minutes before I spotted him in a distant tree. One very presistent bird.

A Dove Chillin

FullSizeRender.jpg

This dove seems to have found zen her spot. Have you noticed that you can identify a Morning Dove just by how they land? It’s very distinct.

The more I photograph birds, the more I find unique behaviors that help to identify them. Yesterday it was the call of a woodpecker, then a cardinal. You can also identify some birds by the cadence of there wings, and even the path of their flight. I’ll have to add some details on this in future post.

Walking On Water

FullSizeRender.jpg

Teresa and I were driving through the Stillwater Prairie Reserve, heading to one of our favorite hiking spots when I saw this scene. One of these geese seemed very confused by the ice, the other one was just enjoying walking on the water.
