Bad Hair Day?

There is no shortage of Hackberry Emperor right now. If you hike in the sun they are there .. and in large numbers.

Let’s Be Friends

We were walking on the bike trail south of town when a butterfly seemed to attack us. This dude was all over me .. but would not land. I knew right away it was a Hackberry Emperor. Normally they like to land on my arms where they drink up the sweat and salt. This one bumped me a couple times, checked out Teresa and flew away. That happed again a little further down the path. A little later it landed where I captured this photo.

Attack Of The Hackberry

This was fun. We have seen this behavior of the Hackberry Emperor butterfly before. They are attracked to humans it seems, likelky the sweat. In an older post we have photographed them on our arms and hands. This one was on Teresa's pants. I had several of them attempt land on my head, face and neck. I did't try to stop them, but they never really were successful.

Hackberry

This is a hackberry Emperor Butterfly. We are not seeing as many butterflies as normal. I sure was great to see this one. We really should be in peak butterfly time.
