The Birds

Adjustments.jpeg

Do you remember the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds?. I remember the first time I saw that film .. freaked me out.

I thought of that movie when looked up and saw this view while hiking this week. Luck for us, they didn’t attack. Crazy.

Looking Like Snow?

Adjustments.jpeg

I didn’t capture the heavy clouds in this photo but it sure looked and felt like snow. The trees have taken off their summer dress, and are all bare.

I love how the Miami River winds through his area. Water levels are very low now, and we are just waiting for a big snow fall.

Birds, Pigs And Carbs

Adjustments.jpeg

What a wonderful day. It started with a great workout. Yes, I even go to the gym on holidays. I earned this cool activity badge pin my Watch, and finished a great leg workout.

Next was all the food prep. We did a hybrid bird this year. Part bird, part pig. Yes, bacon-wrapped turkey. That was not a lot of work, but the bacon taste was not as strong as I expected. It was very moist, and really good.

You can read the details here: How To Make a Bacon-Wrapped Turkey.

After a great feast with family, we took a long walk along the Miami River. The temperature was in the 30’s, but a nice walk. I think we did near 3.5 miles.

I took this photo of this great blue heron with my phone. It’s not as good as a photo as I could have taken with my DSLR due to the distance, but not bad.

I wanted to comment about the food. In previous years, I would have fallen asleep after lunch. A low carb lifestyle resolves that issue. I had a lot of good fat, and some protein, but very low carbs. It was all tasty. In the past, I blamed the post meal sleep on the tryptophan in the turkey. Well, guess what ... that was a lie. It was the carbs.

Have a great weekend.

Things That Matter

IMG_9048.jpeg

This is a photo of Fourmile Creek. I am not sure it is four miles long, and it really does not matter. We get so worked up about things that don’t matter.

Today is Thanksgiving Day for those of you in the U.S.. This is my favorite holiday, and I am so thankful for life, and the opportunity to be alive. I am grateful for family, many of whom I will see today. Life is not perfect, but life is good.

There are those that don’t have food, shelter, or a warm bed today. Be thankful for what you have, but where possible, help someone in need.

Focus on a few things that really matter, and make a difference.

Enjoy your day, and Happy Thanksgiving.

A Proud Robin

Adjustments.jpeg

The American Robin .. they are always around. Seriously, I can go out in some of the worst weather and see a robin. They migrate, but I see them around here in large numbers most of the year.
