The Colors of Hawaii

The colors of Maui, and Hawaii in general are amazing. There are places where it is just plain, but when you get out in the rain forest, it is not just lush, it is bright. This flower is just one example.

Harvest Bell About to Bloom

I believe this is a Harvest Bell (Gentiana saponaria). I picked up some facts from the PlantSnap Plant Identification app by PlantSnap, Inc.. I have used this app a few times, and it does a good job of identifying plants. I love the colors of this late blooming flower.

“Berula is a cosmopolitan genus of flowering plant in the carrot family, whose species are known as water parsnip, as are some other plants in Apiaceae such as Sium latifolium and Sium suave. It is easily confused with the highly toxic water hemlock. Water parsnip is a widespread aquatic plant found across Eurasia, Africa, North America, and elsewhere. It is a perennial plant forming stolons at the base where it roots in mud, often underwater. It extends hollow stems and umbels of white flowers. The leaves are fernlike and have several narrow to rounded leaflets.”

Spotted Jewelweed

Also known as Impatiens Capensis is native to this area. You may also find yellow jewelweed around this part of the country.

The bright colors and the pattern caught my eye. I wish the photo was a little shaper. I need to go back and take some more photos of this beauty.

Purple, Yellow, Green, Brown …

Ironweed shows up in late summer. When the purple shows up, I know we are on the backside of summer. It is a butterfly magnet.

A little detail about this beautiful plant:

“Standing 4 to 6 feet tall at maturity, ironweed boasts a big garden presence when it begins blooming in late summer. That's because clusters of bright purple flowers decorate its tall stems for 6 weeks or more at the end of the growing season. Ironweed received its common name from its ironlike qualities: tough stems, tenacious growing habit, and flowers that give way to seed clusters the color of rust.” Source: Ironweed

If you live near a pond or river, and near some grassland, you should get out and see the beautiful colors ... to take a walk, and take your camera. Enjoy!
