The Family Outing

We ran across this family of geese last week while on a hike. This is a small pond on the Rangeline Rd side of the Stillwater Prairie Reserve. The were sitting on the bank when we came across them. We just watched as they lined up and took a swim (I guess you call it a swim). Cute Family.

Migrating Sandpiper

Adjustments.jpeg

I was surprised to see this ‘Solitary Sandpiper’ while hiking along the Miami River. I don’t recall every photographing a sandpiper in a river here before.

This quote is from the iBird App:

“Solitary Sandpiper: This species breeds in wooded northland regions of Canada and Alaska. It spends winters from southern Florida, central Mexico, and the West Indies south to central South America. Its preferred habitats include swampy margins of brackish pools, freshwater ponds, and woodland streams.”

I guess he is just passing through.

The Geese Have Moved Up

Adjustments.jpeg
Adjustments.jpeg

These photos are a little different. I took these on a morning walk in downtown Piqua (Linear Park). The geese had left the ground for the tops of the buildings.

It started with a pair of geese flying over us, and then one landing on the top of a building just north of us. His partner continued to the next building.

That turned into a very loud argument between the two of them. It was so loud, and very obnoxious.

As we continued our walk we saw many more geese on top of buildings. It was weird and very funny.

We saw these Blue-winged Teals while hiking this week. You don’t see the blue until they strech out their wings. They are a cool looking duck.

This Never Gets Old

Adjustments.jpeg

I never get tried of taking photos of geese. These two have been hanging around at one of my favorite hiking spots for a while, and it just never gets old. We will have a family soon.

Notice how they are maintaining their social distance. They are fast learners.
