Mallard, in blue?

FullSizeRender.jpg

Yes, this is a Mallard. The green crown looks blue in this photo .. iridescence and color is affected by the angle of the photo and of afternoon sun. I am posting this early. I was so excited when I looked it that I just had to share. I also posted it on Instagram.

Wings ...

FullSizeRender.jpg

I just about didn’t get this photo. Teresa and I were on a photo walk when this Great Blue Heron flew over us. I missed it as she flew to the west. I was upset at myself for missing the shot. I have been trying to capture this photo the entire spring. She has been so elusive. We continued our walk ...

A few minutes later, she flew over again, this time flying back towards the east. I guess she changed her mind. This was the best of four shots. Such large wings. Beautiful.

Just setting around

FullSizeRender.jpg

I have seen several Great Blue Herons flying near Garbry big woods but on Friday, I spotted one in a tree. I love the eyes .. just like the eyes of the Green Heron. Very cool.

Squirrel ... over there

FullSizeRender.jpg

Perhaps they have an attention problem. At one point there was even more of these rusty blackbirds all in this small branch, all looking the same way. Perhaps they were looking at me. :)

Northern Flicker

FullSizeRender.jpg

I took this photo a few days ago, but I was struggling to identify this one. A shoutout to my friend Dyna for identifying it as a Northern Flicker. This is the only photo I was able to take, and it was very hard to find due to how well the colors match with the trees. I guess that’s the idea:).
