Strutting it’s stuff ...

IMG_0363.JPG

We had to stop at Wal-Mart in St George to get a couple of personal items. The parking lot was full of cars .. and birds. This guy was nearby, so I took a couple photos.

I loved how he struts. I assume it’s a male .. maybe it’s a strutting female. Perhaps it’s his large feet that makes it so unique. I am sure having a hard time figuring how what it is. I was convinced it was a Black Tern, but I’ve change my mind. The colors are not right. Let me know if you have any ideas.

The GIF below is my  attempt to capture the strut:).

Ladder-backed Woodpecker ..

This Ladder-backed Woodpecker was working on the trees along the Miami River.  I could hear her for a mile, it just took me some time to find her.

Sometimes you have to invest in the search, but it’s worth it.

A race with a Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron

A few years ago, Teresa and I went to a picnic with some friends from work. As part of the activities, we took a boat ride on Lake Lakengren. As we were making a turn, I saw this Great Blue Heron heading our way. As we accelerated, it flies right up beside us. It was beautiful. I captured a few photos, and then said our goodbyes as it few off into the distance.

Polly want a cracker?

Like the photo yesterday, this was taken at the Newport aquarium. I would love to see this bird in it’s natural habitat. The colors are stunning. Sounds like something to add to the bucket list.

If you, like me have wondered where the phrase, ‘Polly want a cracker’ came from, here you go.

Silence and nature

My guess is that if yout take. a two minute walk, you will see a sparrow. They are very common here in Ohio. I love how she blends into the tree and becomes part of the scene. I didn’t even see her at first. There is something to be said for silence, including seeing nature. It’s all around you!
