I have tried to get a good photo of a Great Egret all summer, but somehow I have missed it every time. We saw this one flying earlier in the day, but this time we were in the right spot, at the right time*. Such a beautiful heron. The yellow bill and green eyes .. very cool bird.
In 1953, the great egret in flight was chosen as the symbol of the National Audubon Society. Large numbers of this species were killed for their plumage in the 19th century. We are fortunate to have them around.
