Where Are The Bugs?

This cardinal landed on this branch, then walked up to the top and appeared to be after something. He was diggning and hunting in the wood. I assume he was after breakfast. Perhaps some bugs up there. I guess he had a feast.

Eastern Kingbird

FullSizeRender.jpg

The kingbird is a very large flycatcher (by flycatchers standards).

We went on an ‘organzied’ butterfly walk this week. It was sponsored by the Miami County Parks. This hike was at the Stillwater Prairie Reserve.  I always enjoy taking their hikes, and learn a lot from the naturalist that lead them. I will post a few photos from the hike soon.

So, back to this kingbird. When I first saw him land at the very top of this small tree, I thought it was a swallow. It was a little large, but it looked right. Then it started making so much racket. I guess it was not happy with us, or something. The naturalist pointed out that it was a Kingbird .. I learned something new:).

The dating game

This is the first photo I have taken of a female and male Baltimore Oriole, together. It’s hard to see the female in the first photo, but it was clear that they were enjoying the morning. The second photo is of her in this same spot, as he is approaching. It’s the better of the two photos, although they both are lacking good focus. Still a fun shot, and I had to share it.

Hey, this is my pirch ....

FullSizeRender.jpg

I was setting in my car when I saw this sparrow land. She was near the bottom of this 3 foot tall Compassplant. She climbed to the top, and seemed to shot out, “I am in control. This is my pirch and I’m not moving”. It was cute.
