Smile for the camera

I love this photo of a Northern Flicker. I am seeing more of these as the season continues. They are normally hanging out in the mornings along the river near Farrington Reserve. This one didn’t stick around long .. but long enough for me to capture this photo. I could have cropped out more of the tree, but it really make the photo so much better.

Missing a walk with nature

I really miss my morning walks. We have been in Chicago for a few days for MacStock. This is one of my favorite events and frankly, my favorite weekend of the year. We will be home today and I will get back out with nature.   

I took this photo with my iPhone the day before we left. Have a great week.

Bring on the blues

The eastern blue bird has been very active the last few days.  The sun has been providing near perfect lighting too. The sun is rising a few minutes later, and the timing is just working out. This is a great photo of a male.  

I took a photo of a female too, but she was not in a good spot and the light didn’t help.  

The last photo is of a male that I spooked. He took a dive into the grass. When I say dive, I am not over dramatizing what he did .. he litterly just jumped off the branch and fell toward the ground.

Scenic falls

I took this photo while Teresa and I hiked Hocking Hills recently. I love this view. I had to wait for people to clear the bridge, but they did, and I was able to capture this beautiful scene.

Hey, you have a Yellowthroat

This is one cool bird. No, it is not a finch. This is a Yellowthroat .. its a warbler. This one is referred to as a common yellowthroat. The giveaway is the mask. Females are said to favor the males with larger mask. Who says size doesn’t matter. 😱😱

I had so much fun watching him fly around in this very large circle, doing this flight song dance. They fly a lot like the goldfinch .. short bursts, then they coast, then a short burst and on and on. The resulting pattern looks like a wave in the sky. In this case, he would sing his tune while flapping, then coast in silence. It was so very cool .
