Surprise .. BO

FullSizeRender.jpg

No, not that type of BO: It’s a Baltimore Oriole. I have been waiting for this photo for a long time. This Baltimore Oriole showed up while I was walking on the bike path near the Miami River (Farrington Reserve).

I had a difficult time getting a good photo. I would get a good photo lined up, and then he would jump to another location. The leaves are also making it harder to see birds now too. I just waited him out, and he continued to jump around until I was able to get a decent photo. I love the brilliant color, and the contrast. It was worth the wait.

Brown Thrasher

Yes, this is a Brown Thrasher. I love the yellow eyes (you may have to zoom in to see that). This is another migratory bird, so they are only here for the summer. I think this is a very cool bird.

This fellow taught me another lesson: Take every photo. When I spotted this bird, I thought it was another sparrow. I noticed it was a little larger, so I decided to take a photo, then I could see the beak and I new it was something different. Pictures are cheap. I mean, I’m not using film:). Take every shot!!

Wild blue what?

DSC_5368.JPG

This is Wild Blue Phlox .. at least that is what my iPad says it is. We saw this on the nature hike at Garbry Big Woods Sanctuary last week. Some of the early flowering plants are blooming. I love the color because it reminds me of our wedding day.

Yellow-breasted Chat

FullSizeRender.jpg

I have spent some time with nature this week and I have seen some beautiful wildlife, mostly of the flying variety (birds). There seems to be a run on yellow:). The most common seems to be the American Goldfinch. This one was first. When I first saw him, I thought it was another goldfinch, but when I got a good view of him, I knew it was different.

It took me a while to figure out what it was. I knew if was a warbler, but I was struggling to identify him. My son actually helped with this one. I am posting a Goldfinch too, so you can see the difference.

It’s a Yellow-breasted Chat. They are a migratory species, and they are migrating right now. I took this photo at the Stillwater Prairie Reserve.

I think this is one of my best photos of the year. At least in the top 10. Have a good day!

Question of the day...

FullSizeRender.jpg

So, the question today: what is your favorite season? My answer? That’s a tough one. I’m not sure if I really have a favorite season. I love spring and fall. I enjoy summer, and I don’t like winter. I actually like parts of winter, but I am not a cold weather person. Anyway, other than that, I don’t have an option. :)

These tulips ... I love them. I hope you have a beautiful spring day, even if it rains!! The colors are happening, and the bird migration is in full swing in Ohio. It’s a beautiful time of year.
