Last minute harvest

I took this photo about a week ago. I’m sure there is a good reason why this happened so late. I mean, I have passed a number of unharvested crops this past week, so this guy is not alone.  

Frequent, I am guilty of practicing the art of procrastination. Mark Twain reportedly said, ““Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.” I will do better.  🤷🏼‍♂️

Sometimes I practice the ‘snow principle’ .. wait and see if it melts. It’s amazing how often things that are said to be urgent, are just noise. Given the time, they melt and vanish.

I really prefer most trees when they have their foliage: when they are fully dressed in green. There is one exception - the American Sycamore Tree. I have always loved the look of the sycamore when they are fully visible, without foliage. 

The Sycamore grows to be very large, not just tall, but big! The following is from Wikipedia: 

A sycamore can grow to massive proportions, typically reaching up to 30 to 40 m (98 to 131 ft) high and 1.5 to 2 m (4.9 to 6.6 ft) in diameter when grown in deep soils. The largest of the species have been measured to 51 m (167 ft), and nearly 4 m (13 ft) in diameter. Larger specimens were recorded in historical times. In 1744, a Shenandoah Valley settler named Joseph Hampton and two sons lived for most of the year in a hollow sycamore in what is now Clarke County, Virginia near the junction of the Kanawha and Ohio Rivers, George Washington recorded in his journal a sycamore measuring 13.67 m (44 ft 10 in) in circumference at 91 cm (3 ft) from the ground..

They also stand out visually as the bark flakes off and leaves patches of white, gray and brown. A very cool look!  They are very common in Ohio. 

By the way, I love the ladder that is leaning against the lower branch in the photo. It appears to be the place of a future swing. Picture this: a rope, some wood .. and a child. Perfection!

“Nothing runs like a Deere”

I captured not only a beautiful sunset over the horizon, and as it slowly sets over this old John Deere tractor. This photo is from a fall evening in 2015. The image is slightly over saturated, it captured the beauty of the evening. The suns rays are so inviting .. I’m ready for some warmer weather. 😎

Old tractors often stop running, even if they are a Deere. They serve their purpose for years, but at some point they fail to keep up.

I was so dreading my 60th birthday. I guess I was feeling like this old tractor (if it had feelings). The reality is, it’s just the beginning of something new. A new chapter, with new adventures and opportunities. One door closes, and another door is swinging open. Enjoy every day!

It’s been several years since we visited the Grand Canyon. The size is beyond comprehension and scale is unforgettable. This single photo does not do it justice. I need to go back so I can capture more photos.

I don’t keep a journal, but if I did, this is how it would read for Oct 1, 2015:

After a long day, Teresa and I took a walk on the beach. In the distance, you could hear the throngs of people, but here, just the waves lapping the shores. The silence was beautiful and in some ways overpowering. The view .. that was the explanation point on a day in paradise.
