Wood Nymph

This is a Common Wood Nymph Butterfly. We usually see them earlier in the spring. This one landed on the hiking path. I love the rich brown color.

I really wanted to capture a photo with his wings openned but no such luck. Next time!

One More Time

A few days ago I posted a photo of a Hackberry Emperor butterfly on the back of someone we met on a hike. This time, it was flying between Teresa and me. They are so intense.

The Spring Azure

This is a Spring Azure butterfly. They are very small and often overlooked. You will see them in the early afternoon or evening flying from plant to plant or just above the grass. They are beautiful.

Friendly Flyer

I believe the Hackberry Emperor is the most friendly of all butterflies. We have had them follow us on long hikes, often lanading on us. We even had one land on our hands and stay there while we made a video of it.

Last week we were hiking when we crossed paths with this couple that asked if we wanted a picture of this butterfly that was on the husbands back. Teresa took this picture. As soon as they said the butterfly had been on his back for some time, I knew it was a Hackberry Emperor .. even before I saw the butterfly. Funny and cool.
