Playful gulls

I really enjoyed watching these seagulls. I think they were playing ‘king of the hill’. The winner didn’t mind letting everyone know. I’m going to call this a Herring Gull. It most fits the description anyway. Feel free to give me some feedback if you have some other thoughts.

We are heading to Myrtle Beach and I hope to get some photos to share from there over the next few days. Have a great week.

Warbler on the go

Teresa spotted this Black-and-white Warbler while we were on a butterfly walk this week. It looks a lot like the blackpoll warbler! This is a migratory bird, and they are currently heading south for the winter. This bird was feeding to collect the energy for the long flight.

Yesterday’s video included footage from the butterfly walk we participated in this week. ​

I love the Indigo Bunting ...

I love the Indigo Bunting. I love the color, the beautiful songs, and their curiosity. Some mornings, I find myself just standing there, listening to this one sang. I made a joke about him not being yellow in yesterdays video, but the reality is simple: such a a beautiful blue.

A gift ..

Cardinals seem to be difficult to photograph. They know when people are around, and bolt quickly. In this case, I was walking on the road at Garbry Big Woods Reserve, and this cardinal landed on this small tree about 30 feet from me. I didn’t try to zoom, and really didn’t need to. I made sure I had a focus, and started snapping. In short order he moved to a new spot, but it was still perfect for photos, so I took a few more.

The other cardinal ..

This young female cardinal was enjoying the morning. She would not stand still, but I managed to get a few photos.

While the male colors are more brilliant, I find the female to be as beautiful. For some reason, the female is also a more difficult photo. Beauty is not just the colors .. it’s the contrast, and how the colors all come together. This is one very special creature .. the other cardinal.
