Towhee What?

IMG_0787.JPG

This is an Eastern Towhee. Frankly, I have never seen one. Teresa captured this photo while I was a 50 or 60 feet away flying my drone. I guess I should have been focusing 😂😱

We shot some video while hiking this week. Enjoy!

Catching Flys?

FullSizeRender.jpg

I know this is a flycatcher .. I think it is a Acadian Flycatcher. Regardless, it is a cool bird. The colors are move of an olive green.

I have not made a video in a couple of weeks. The spring weather seems to be up and down. A lot of rain, some cooler mornings .. just nuts. It has improved this week, once the rain stopped. We had a lot of flooding along the Miami river.

Have a great weekend.

Hum

We were hiking at Stillwater Prairie Reserve yesterday and saw this female Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I love this little bird. They can hover, and fly backwards. They are amazing to watch. They migrate north as the flowers bloom, allowing them to have food for that super metabolism to be fueled. Check this out:

Hummingbirds have one of the highest metabolic rates of any animal, with heart rates up to 1260 beats per minute, breathing rate of about 250 breaths per minute even at rest, and oxygen consumption of about 4 ml oxygen/g/hour at rest. During flight, hummingbird oxygen consumption per gram of muscle tissue is approximately 10 times higher than that seen for elite human athletes. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummingbird)

Too Busy Too Notice

FullSizeRender.jpg

We were driving through Garbry Big Woods in the rain when I spotted this crazy Goldfinch working on this old plant from last fall. He was so intense about it that he didn’t even notice us. We were noisy, and very obvious about our presence, but he just kept eating. I guess it was tasty good.

Love this Blue

We have seen a large number of Eastern Bluebirds this spring. Not too many females, although I know they are there, I am just not seeing them. Their blue is so bright. Love this bird!
