Blue Hunter

public.jpeg

I captured this photo of this Great Blue Heron while hiking the Miami River Bike Trail. We were walking across the Robert J Shook Bridge, just south of the Farrington Reserve when we spotted her. She was so stealthy that I almost missed the shot.

Frankly, I am not sure if this was a male or a female. You really can’t tell the difference, at least I can’t. This is really close to where I believe there is a nest. I’m still trying to locate it.

Where Is That Nest?

public.jpeg

We have been trying to locate the nest for this Blue Heron family for a couple weeks. Generally we know where it is located, but we have not been able to spot it.

One day last last week, we were looking for it, then turned a different direction, then there she was ... we missed the takoff again.

Misplaced Goose

public.jpeg

This is the Greater White-fronted Goose .. well, Geese. I have not seen any of these geese in Ohio, but they were gathered in large numbers around Richmond, Indiana. At first, I thought they were ducks, but once I zoomed in and could get a better view, I realized they were geese.

The greater white-fronted goose is a medium sized goose. They are usually seen west of the Mississippi, but not on this day!

Resting a Leg

public.jpeg

This is one of the larger Great Blue Herons I have seen recently. It is common to see these guys standing on one leg. I don’t know the root of this, but I assume its just resting a leg:).
