Goldfinch, Deep greens, and ..

FullSizeRender.jpg

I had to share this photo .. I took it earlier today at Garbry Big Woods Reserve. The colors just blew me away.

I have received some questions about what lens I used for this shot. I used this Sigma 150 - 600mm lens.  It’s heavy, but it works really great. I shot most of my bird photos with this lens.

Mallard, in blue?

FullSizeRender.jpg

Yes, this is a Mallard. The green crown looks blue in this photo .. iridescence and color is affected by the angle of the photo and of afternoon sun. I am posting this early. I was so excited when I looked it that I just had to share. I also posted it on Instagram.

Wings ...

FullSizeRender.jpg

I just about didn’t get this photo. Teresa and I were on a photo walk when this Great Blue Heron flew over us. I missed it as she flew to the west. I was upset at myself for missing the shot. I have been trying to capture this photo the entire spring. She has been so elusive. We continued our walk ...

A few minutes later, she flew over again, this time flying back towards the east. I guess she changed her mind. This was the best of four shots. Such large wings. Beautiful.
